Flat Frenzy

With the weather warming up, I’m starting to get excited about being able to wear flats again. Boots are great for winter but we have so many new flats in exciting colors and styles that lend so much more variety to my outfits. Some of my favorite trends this spring are flats in bold colors, with cut outs, and those with a fun embellishment like a contrasting cap toe or a feminine bow. Who says comfort has to be boring?

Jordan almonds

I've always been a bit fascinated by Jordan almonds, which were not even on my radar until I started working in the wedding industry.  So, I thought it might be fun to do a bit a research on these confectionary treats.  The fact that Jordan almonds are commonly used as wedding favors is not by accident but rather stems from some symbolism behind the candy.  The "bitter" almond and the "sweet" sugary candy coating are meant to represent the bitterness of life and the sweetness of love.  The traditionally pastel colored candies are often packaged in groups of five to represent happiness, health, longevity, wealth and fertility.

Got the Blues

In many parts of the country, winter weather has started to make us all feel a bit blue. However, fashion optimists everywhere are seeing the upside to blue and are using it as the new neutral. One of my favorite pieces is the chambray shirt. I wear mine to work with a pencil skirt and heels to dress it up, on the weekends with a bright colored pant, or sometimes I just throw it over my outfit as an alternative to a cardigan or blazer. The best part? Denim and chambray are different types of fabric so it’s okay to wear them together.

Types of Leathers

There are several types of leathers. Here's how to choose the perfect one for your home.  The basic differences between each type are: how they look, how they feel and how you care for them.

Pure Aniline: extremely soft, offers no resistance to staining, shade variation is common, will fade if exposed to sunlight.

Nubuk: Extremely soft, offers no resistance to staining. Shade variation is common, surface is lightly brushed to create nap or ''suede" effect. Will fade if exposed to sunlight.

Semi-Aniline: Soft, though not as soft as Pure Aniline or Nubuk. Offers some resistance to staining. Light topcoat applied. Shade variation is common, will fade if exposed to sunlight.

Protected full grain: Softest protected option, offers very high resistance to staining. Protective, pigmented topcoat applied for color and protection. No shade variation, less susceptible to fading.

Protected corrected grain: Least natural feel, offers very high resistance to staining. Protective, pigmented topcoat applied for color and protection. No shade variation, less susceptible to fading. “Grain” is artificially embossed.

Diamonds, polka dots and stripes are strewn across ultra sheer stockings in black on black designs that exploit texture to its fullest. The look is perfectly in keeping with Spring’s tendency to focus on varying opacity and layering. In a subtler trend, black footless sheers are simplified to achieve a coquettish look. Pattern is eliminated, allowing these tights to create a look that is sophisticated, yet playful.

Fabric prints have evolved into more eclectic patterns, which has added an additional fashionable detail to my shapewear collection. Ornate blooms, butterflies and dots are found in subtle tones such as silver and gun metal gray. Leather Basics 101

Ever want to have a leather sofa in your home but were too afraid? We're here to tell you that leather is for everyone.  Leather can be an excellent choice for families with children or pets. You just have to pick the right leather for your home.  Protected leathers offer stain resistance and easy cleanability. Unlike fabric, leather will not fray.

Common leather questions:

Q: Is leather really stronger than fabric?
A: Yes. Top grain leather is more difficult to puncture with a pen than fabric.

Q: Why does leather sometimes feel cold?
A; Leather will adapt to the temperature of the environment. If the temperature inside your home is 72 degrees, your leather sofa will also be 72 degrees. Since normal body temperature is 98.6, (insert degree symbol) it feels cool to the touch when you first sit down. It will adjust to your body temperature as you sit on it.

Q: Does a higher-grade leather mean it is better or more durable?
A: No. In fact, generally higher-grade leathers are more difficult to care for. A leather's type and grade are not synonymous.  Grade simply tells you how much it costs.
